PatchWork

PatchWork for Windows and macOS

The canvas, running natively: projects on disk instead of a 5 MB browser quota, exports that land where you choose, and generations that carry on while the window is in the background.

Windows

Windows 10 or 11 · 64-bit · 290 MB
Download 0.10.0 (.exe)

macOS

macOS 11+ · Apple Silicon & Intel · 317 MB
Download 0.10.0 (.dmg)

One build covers both Apple Silicon and Intel Macs, so there is nothing to choose between. Updates are never installed automatically — the app notifies you when a new version is available and you choose when to download and install.

Before you install

Windows will try to stop you. That is expected.

This beta is not code-signed yet, so SmartScreen shows a blue “Windows protected your PC” screen with only a Don't run button visible.

  1. Click More info — a line of small text under the message.
  2. Click Run anyway, which appears once you do.

macOS will try harder. Here is the whole dance.

Same reason — no certificate yet — but Gatekeeper is stricter than SmartScreen, and on macOS 15 the old right-click → Open shortcut no longer works. You will see “Apple could not verify PatchWork is free of malware” with only Done and Move to Trash. Do not move it to the trash.

  1. Drag PatchWork into Applications as usual, then open it once and dismiss the warning with Done.
  2. Open System Settings → Privacy & Security and scroll down to the Security section.
  3. There is a line saying PatchWork was blocked. Click Open Anyway, then confirm with Touch ID or your password.

You do this once. After that it opens normally like any other app.

Mac updates are manual for now. macOS refuses to auto-update an app that is not signed, so when there is a new version you will need to come back here and download it again.

Not worth the hassle?

Use the web version instead — it is the same app in a browser tab. What you give up is projects on disk instead of a 5 MB browser quota, exports that land where you choose, working offline, and desktop notifications when a generation finishes.

You need an invite code

PatchWork is invite-only while it is in beta. The code goes in the Create account form the first time you sign in. No code yet? Request an invite.

You connect your own accounts

PatchWork does not resell generation. The desktop app generates through the accounts you sign into, so you pay each provider directly, at their prices. You only need the ones whose models you actually want:

Google Flow Images (Nano Banana) and video (Veo 3.1, Omni Flash). Start here.
ChatGPT GPT Image 2.
Kling Kling video, on your own kling.ai subscription.
ElevenLabs Text-to-speech, sound effects, music and speech-to-speech. Get a key
fal.ai Auto-captions and background removal in the video editor. Get a key
Open weight video models MiniMax H3 and LTX 2.5, on a RunPod GPU or your own ComfyUI.

What leaves your machine

  • Your API keys never do. They are stored on your computer and sent straight to the provider you are calling.
  • Generated media is uploaded to PatchWork storage, because the generation APIs have to fetch your reference images by URL. Those URLs are unguessable but public: anyone holding one can open it. Do not put anything confidential through the beta.
  • Your projects sync to your account while you are signed in. That is what lets you open them on another machine, and what makes an uninstall survivable.
  • Anonymous GPU timings, if you leave that box ticked on first run. Prompt text is never sent — it is replaced with a salted hash.

Something broken?

In the app: Help → Copy Diagnostics. It puts versions, your storage state and the last few errors on the clipboard — no keys, no tokens, no prompt text — and nothing is uploaded anywhere. Paste that into an email to [email protected] with a note about what you were doing.

Help → Report a Problem does both steps for you.
